Below is the original drawing that I created and next to it is the completed poster design/layout. One thing that my poster designs allow me to do is play with typography. There is a beauty in words and fonts. The fonts used in this layout are Century Gothic and Girls Are Weird. Girls Are Weird was created by John Martz. His font is organically ornate. I thought it went well with the drawing. The font’s delicate feel contrast well with this figure which is vibrant and bold.
The poem on the poster is about beauty:
Her beauty starts from within her spirit and penetrates her skin, her breast, her hips and lips. It is released through her smile and words AND, like a sunny spring day, it warms those around her. Ain’t she beautiful? is one that cam with life experiences and love experiences. That is the beautiful I want to be. Mmm. Feel it. See how it vibrates.
Not my best writing, but it works for the design.
I know that last week I said I would do a layout in Adobe Photoshop – and I will, I promise – but this drawing called for bold blocks of color and Illusrtator works best for that.
I was inspired by a drawing that I completed a couple of weeks ago. Black silhouettes or figures are not usually my artistic MO, but I am finding something new and interesting about the silhouette ladies.
Most of my work as a graphic designer is beautifully functional. My clients love it and I love when they are happy. But, these posters are my time to make graphic design sing and become a tune of artistic beauty, and that has made me happy.
My friend told me that I should do step by step of the creative process on the posters. I will think about it.
Until Next weekend!
