My paintings in the past year have begun to go in a direction that is very illustrated like, with solid black lines and solid vibrant colors. Well on this day, when I stepped in front of the canvas, I wanted to go back to an older style of mine; more painterly (if that is a word). The brush strokes and the layers and layers of paint are more evident.
Take a look
This is acrylic on canvas – about 24 x 36. I went back to this style because I missed it. It is almost like going home after being away for a while. The familiarity is comforting and kinda new. What is the painting about? The same thing all my paintings are about – me and the environment that I live in. don’t ask for more than that.
I haven’t painted in a moment. When I did paint, I felt I was doing it without heart; with no creative flow behind it. I was enjoying it, but I didn’t feel the challenge. I need to challenge me and my art in order to grow as an artist. I think that going back to an old style of painting helped shake up what was becoming the same old same old.
I promised myself a couple more weeks of sketching and brain storming, then it is back to the canvas. I’ll keep you all posted to the outcome.
Until next weekend.
