Creating for Creation Sake
I’ve been on a lot of networking sites and I see people sharing their expertise and knowledge about whatever they do. I think that is awesome. I thought this would become one of those people. I can see it now – “Expert in Graphic Design and Branding” – Sounds good and it may be true. Yet there are many hours out of the day that I get to show off my graphic and design expertise. It is rare that I get a chance to share other passions such as art, writing and illustrating.
This weekend was quiet. I didn’t get any calls from friends or family or bill collectors. It gave me time to reflect on what I needed and what makes my life wonderfully fulfilled. What I came up with was simply, creating.
I love to create and all the processes of doing that. So instead of networking and sharing my expertise in hopes of finding other opportunities, I decided to make this an opportunity to share my love for creating and the results of it.
Every weekend since last Thanksgiving, I’ve created one painting. I did not say that the paintings were masterpieces, but they have become a release and a continual learning field for me. Most people look forward to weekends, but this ritual has made weekends difficult to wait for indeed.
I will share my weekend painting (completed or not) here every week. That is the plan. I hope to learn more about creating through this process and become a better artist for it. The above painting was done in the second week of December.
